Thrive at Your Home: An Effective Approach to Vibrant Aging
Thrive at Your Home: An Effective Approach to Vibrant Aging
Today I am joined by Cari Kamp and Hal Cranmer to discuss Thrive At Your Home, a program designed to help individuals stay healthy, independent, and out of assisted living through lifestyle changes.
Understanding Cognitive Decline
Question: What would you say to someone concerned about a loved one showing signs of cognitive decline?
Hal Cranmer: Get started as soon as you can. I owned assisted living homes for 10 years, and by the time many people reach hospice with advanced Alzheimer’s or dementia, it’s often too late to make significant changes. The best time to act is right when you notice the diagnosis or early signs. Dementia is closely related to lifestyle. At Thrive At Your Home, our goal is to keep people at home by making positive lifestyle changes that can make a real difference in cognition.
Reversing Type 2 Diabetes Through Lifestyle
Question: Can we really reverse Type 2 diabetes?
Response: Yes — Type 2 diabetes can often be reversed with lifestyle changes. Many people are shocked to hear this, even in healthcare. It starts with nutrition and daily habits, not just medication.
Cari’s Personal Health Journey
Cari Kamp: I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes 12 years ago at age 48. I was told I would need medication, but no one talked about nutrition. I never went on medication. By changing my lifestyle and re-evaluating what I thought was “healthy,” I was able to turn it around. If your A1C or other numbers are going in the wrong direction, something you’re currently doing may not be right for your body. These changes can happen quickly.
Just because a parent has diabetes or cognitive issues doesn’t mean you will too — you can change your trajectory by changing your lifestyle. That’s exactly what we help people do at Thrive At Your Home.
Final Thoughts
Early detection and proactive lifestyle changes are key to vibrant aging and staying independent at home.
